Another round of safety recalls has been announced by car manufacturing company General Motors. These recalls can be added to several others that the company has already announced earlier in the year. This time around the recalls has been issued due to a fire hazard as well as two different seat defects. Hyundai has also announced a safety recall for some of their vehicles due to a transmission defect. Each recall and the makes and models affected are as follows:
General Motors Fire Hazard:
Approximately 184,611 vehicles have been recalled due to a possible short circuit in the master power switch that could potentially start a fire. The defect in the switch is due to fluid entering the driver’s side door and causing corrosion that could cause a short in the circuit board. This could cause a fire to ignite even when the vehicle is not being used. As a precaution, it is suggested that owners park away from any building and outside of garages until the problem can be solved. The following cars included in the recall include the following models:
- 2005-2007 SAAB 9-7X
- 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL
- 2006-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier and Isuzu Ascender
The recall schedule has not been set yet, but once it is, dealers will inspect your vehicle and make the necessary fixes free of charge.
General Motors Seat Drop Defect
Due to a defect in the seat height adjuster, 414,333 vehicles have been recalled by General Motors. This defect causes the bolt in the adjuster to fall out causing the seat to drop suddenly to its lowest position. This can distract the driver and increase the risk of an automobile accident. The following vehicles are included:
- 2011-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal, and Chevrolet Camaro
- Certain 2010-2012 Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Equinox, and GMC Terrain.
This recall schedule has not been set, but once it is dealers will inspect your vehicle and make the necessary fixes free of charge.
General Motors Seat Failure
General Motors has issued another seat failure recall that includes approximately 124,007 vehicles. This defect is due to an incomplete weld on the seat hook bracket assembly with the front seats. This will cause the seats to be insecure and possibly dislodge in a high load condition such as an accident. The following vehicles are included in this defect:
- 2013-2014 Buick Encore and Cadillac ATS
- 2014 Cadillac CTS and ELR, Chevrolet Caprice and SS
- 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Trucks
This recall is set to begin in late August, and dealers will inspect the vehicle and perform the necessary services at no cost to you.
Hyundai Sonata Rollaway Hazard
Approximately 833,000 Sonata vehicles manufactured between December 11, 2009, and May 29, 2014, have been recalled due to a transmission problem. In these cars, the transmission shift cable may detach from the shift lever pin, which could cause an issue with gear selections and then cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Furthermore, if “Park” is selected but the transmission isn’t really in the park gear, the vehicle could roll away as the driver and passengers exit or anytime afterward.
The recall for this has yet to be scheduled, but once it is dealers will fix the issue at no charge.
