Located around 15 miles south of downtown West Palm Beach, the City of Boynton Beach boasts itself as “The Gateway to the Gulf Stream.” The city bears the name of Major Nathan S. Boynton, who founded Boynton Beach after the Civil War. The City of Boynton Beach has a population of approximately 70,000 residents. The City is the third largest in Palm Beach County.

Historical Landmarks in Boynton Beach
The Andrews Home - 306 S.E. First Avenue
The Andrews Home is the oldest house in Boynton Beach. One of the early pioneer families in Boynton Beach, Mr. and Mrs. Bert L. Kapp built this historic landmark in 1901.

Boynton Woman’s Club - 1010 S. Federal Highway
Designed by world famous architect Addison Mizner, the present Boynton Woman’s Club  was built in 1925. In 1932 and the building and property were dedicated to Major Nathan Smith Boynton. It housed the community’s library until 1961 and continues to serve as a social and cultural center.

Schoolhouse Children’s Museum - 129 East Ocean Avenue
Boynton Beach Elementary School was built in 1913. The Cityof Boynton Beach partners with the Boynton Cultural Centre, Inc. to operate the Schoolhouse Children’s Museum.
 
Lofthus - Underwater Archaeological Preserve - 3/4 of a mile north of the Boynton Inlet
The Lofthus is a vessel that wrecked off Manalapan in 1898. In 2003, the ship was dedicated and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Lofthus, originally built in Sunderland, England  in  October of 1868, was sold to a Norwegian in 1897 and renamed Lofthus. In February of 1898, the Lofthus wrecked en route from Pensacola to Buenos Aires. The historic site is a favorite among area divers.

Just as many other areas of Florida and the nation, Boynton Beach continues to deal with a poor housing market, paving the way for foreclosure defense and the increased need for mortgage modifications.
