ReNu

ReNu with MoistureLoc and ReNu with MultiPlus, manufactured by Bausch & Lomb, have been linked to fungal eye infections that can lead to blindness.

Bausch & Lomb announced a recall of the lens solution in April 2006 after several major retailers, including WalMart, Walgreens, and CVS, withdrew the product from their store shelves. Consumers were strongly encouraged to discontinue use and to purchase an alternative lens solution.

As of May 2006, 164 reports of Fusarium keratitis infections were being investigated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A large number of infected per sons reported using the cleaner. It is believed that many more have developed problems from the ReNu with MoistureLoc Solution, because many adverse reactions to dangerous products go unreported. A person can become blind from Fusarium keratitis infections because of its ability to scar the cornea. A few symptoms that are early warnings of this dangerous eye infection include blurry vision, pain or redness, excessive discharge, and increased sensitivity to light.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that consumers stop using the ReNu contact lens solution immediately. If you have used ReNu contact lens solution and have symptoms of an eye infection, promptly consult your physician for an evaluation. You may be entitled to compensation.
